For example, Debbie Pakradooni on Radnor Patch thinks she can write. She can't. And I am sure she is blogging to bring attention to her full time business.
Another, more prolific irritation is Mary Jane Hurley Grant. First it's the too many names. Secondly, her preachier holier than thou style of writing would make her the last person I would take advice from. She is so obviously writing to promote her non-literary business. People who blog at Patch do it for free. But if they are clearly doing it to promote their businesses, they should be re-classified as what the posts truly are: ads.
But the blog post that made me think some Main Line women should stop being apologetic comes from Kate Kopp "Wife, Mother, Professional Volunteer and Observer of Life" . Mind you her introduction translated to me is "I have an overwhelming need to justify I am a stay at home mom."
Seriously? Knock it off.
Lady, there is nothing wrong with being a housewife and stay at home mom. Own it and celebrate it. Stop making excuses for it. And professional volunteer? Soooo negative.
So Kate the frustrated housewife thespian has this post:
Real Housewife of Rosemont
I have a confession to make. I watch the Real Housewives series. I mean, I am a bit obsessed with it. And I’m not just talking one or two locations. I really couldn’t tell you which group of women I love to hate the most. New York, New Jersey, Beverly Hills – I watch them all.....I often wonder why they don’t do a Real Housewives of the Main Line. After much thought (okay, not that much thought), I’ve decided it’s because the general public would be bored after one episode. The money is there, but really, how many tennis matches and lunches at the Club could you stand to watch.
I’ve contemplated what my life would look like if a camera crew followed me around.
The Real Housewife of Rosemont:
Walk the dogs
Clean the house
Throw in some laundry
Pick up the dry cleaning
Quick stop to Genuardi’s for dinner
Pay the bills
Walk the dogs again
Chauffeur the kids to soccer/swimming/volleyball/religious ed class (depending on the day)
Make dinner
Fold the mountain of clothes that have piled up on the window seat
Help with homework
Fall asleep watching Real Housewives of Beverly Hills in bed in my flannel pants and sweatshirt
Really, who wouldn’t want to watch that every week?
So Kate, where do you club, dahling? Is that Rosemont as in Rosemont or Garrett Hill? Garrett Hill is kind of cool, so one would hope if you lived in Garrett Hill you would be proud to say so?
Plenty of women watch the Real Housewives, which is why it is such a healthy franchise for Bravo. Is it reality? No. And have they attempted to bring a Real Housewives of the Main Line to life? Yes, last year and one other time. But thus far it seems that even television producers think Main Line housewives are that silly that they wouldn't make good T.V. - face it, if someone thought it was truly marketable, it would be done or really in the works.
But the thing is this, there are a lot of frivolous women on the Main Line, and I think this Kate Kopp does herself a disservice. Being a stay at home mom and housewife is hard work. It is beyond a full-time job. So don't apologize for your guilty pleasure of T.V. shows and quit apologizing for your career choice. And start your own blog away from Patch. You at least show promise in a sea of bobble heads. Be real and own who you are.
snarky out
