Poor Philly bus drivers haven’t had a raise in 10 months
...Philadelphia (which SEPTA covers) will host the New York Yankees for Games 3 and 4 on Saturday and Sunday. The local’s president is Willie Brown.
From the AP story: “Brown said he hoped a walkout would not affect the series, but he said workers have been without a contract since March and have not had a raise since December.”
No raise since December? Are they kidding me? Is that the gripe? Unreal.
Leave it Septa. Oh if I could have put my fist firmly between the flapping lips of that fat union guy on TV trying to justify a strike on the eve of the World Series?
Those Septa Workers get better salaries and benefits then I daresay the majority of folks living in the Tri-State area right now, and the greedy bastards want more? ASSHOLES. A-Rod the Madonna-Shtupping-Jerk from The Yankees should be their mascot!
Every time Philadelphia can crawl out of one of those dubious honors like being one of the ugliest cities, or the fattest cities, or the city that destroyed the Barnes Art Collection, the city who welcomed Michael Vick with open arms, or whatever, something else happens.
I think the people of the Philadelphia area should BOYCOTT Septa for a couple days and let them get a dose of their own medicine.
Septa is incredibly expensive for public transit, it is not safe, it's dirty, it sucks. Yet they are going to hold US as a region hostage on the eve of the World Series?
Nice. Welcome to Philadelphia, New York. Welcome to Philadelphia, Philadelphia. Home of SEPTA: They Do Nothing And Always Want More.

I am still mad at Septa for the last World Series. How many of you were left standing at the Wayne, St. David's or Strafford Stations with your kids as you watched all the trains blow past for the World Series Victory Parade?
I expect the owners of the Phillies have lots of moola, right? How about Phanatic Shuttles from the suburbs and different city points? They could charge a fee and donate some of those fees to charities supported by members of the Phillies organization?
Boycott Septa. They have once again shown their true colors, it's about damn time the people push back. Losers.

Union to SEPTA workers: OK to strike

LESS THAN A week before the World Series comes to Philadelphia, about 1,200 SEPTA union members yesterday voted unanimously to authorize the Transport Workers Union Local 234 to strike, which would disrupt nearly one million riders daily.
A strike could be called by the end of the week, depending on the progress of negotiations today and tomorrow, union leaders said after a standing-room-only meeting yesterday at the Sheet Metal Workers Hall in South Philadelphia.
"This is the last week we are going to work without a contract," said Willie Brown, local TWU president, whose more than 5,000 members have been working without a contract since March 15.
Meanwhile....the New York Post is already calling the world series....

BOYCOTT SEPTA.
PROTEST SEPTA.
TAKE AWAY THEIR POWER.
PASS IT ON.

I don't live in Philly, but I certainly agree with you! Seems like they'd be happy to have a job right now!
snarky, I usually agree with you, or at least have a laugh, but you sound like a birther on this one.
Anonymous,
Septa workers are like Radnor Township Employees - they make enough money and benefits now...sorry but I am sick of it. That doesn't make me a birther.
I'm in! the Tube in London is cheaper! It's service is inadequate and their employees, especially in the subway, are some of the rudest people and they never get their job done right on time. Where do they get their training? Rome?
Yea, and they're going bankrupt. Ha. If they supplied enough trains and staff for the Phillies parade last year they would have pulled themselves out of the whole. It's a great management model to crumble under pressure. I mean its just horrible management. I bet all those union workers took their "personal day" that day when they should have been offered a bonus or triple time jsut so they get all those fares. BTW my uncle had to cancel his surgeries he had scheduled that day, luckily none of his patients died. Ahhh.
Lets boycott and let septa go belly up and maybe some private company will buy them up. I mean who uses tokens anymore but us? The only good thing about a strike is it keeps the crack heads and packs of teenagers closer to crack houses/homes.
I just want all of Septa to be fired! This is absurd. I think the people of Philly need to stand up to this union mob. We just need the private sector to take over and do the job right. From now on I am boycotting septa. There is no way I want any of my money going to such a corrupt union.
