sometimes you just feel a little snarcastic.....
It seems to have taken forever (the seasons have changed, and changed and changed again), but this long presidential campaign is finally coming to an end. In January, with snow blanketing the trail in Iowa and New Hampshire, I wrote of the Barack Obama phenomenon: “Shake hands with tomorrow. It’s here.”
I didn’t mean that Senator Obama would win the election. He still seemed like a long shot to me. But it was clear that the message, style and strategy of his campaign pointed to a new direction for American politics, and that a new generation of voters — younger, smarter, more diverse, more open-minded — was anxious to follow his lead....This election is hardly over, despite the impulse of the pundits to write the McCain campaign’s obituary. But Senator McCain has diminished his chances of winning the presidency in many ways, the most important of which was his failure to grasp the most significant new trend in American politics.
With the country facing enormous problems (even before the meltdown of the credit and financial markets in recent months), the voters wanted more substance from their candidates. They wanted a greater sense of maturity and a more civil approach to campaigning. They were tired of the politics of personal destruction and the playbook that counseled “attack, attack, attack.”
Senator Obama was perfectly suited to this new approach. He told the crowd that trekked through the cold and snow to hear his victory speech at the Iowa caucuses:
“You said the time has come to move beyond the bitterness and pettiness and anger that’s consumed Washington. To end the political strategy that’s been all about division, and instead make it about addition. To build a coalition for change that stretches through red states and blue states.”
John McCain didn’t get it. He seemed as baffled by the new politics as an Al Jolson aficionado trying to make sense of the Beatles....Mr. McCain must never have noticed that the public turned overwhelmingly against the Bush administration because of its repeatedly demonstrated incompetence. Now here is Senator McCain, in the midst of a national crisis, with a running mate who is demonstrably incompetent to serve the nation as its president.
Ms. Palin is a walking affront to the many Republican women (not to mention women in general) who are, in fact, qualified to hold the highest office in the land.
John McCain could have traveled a higher road. He chose not to. He bet instead on one last gasping triumph of the politics of the past.
VP Candidate Sarah Palin has officially went rogue. Late last night the candidate went dark, and is now off the grid. After disabling her campaign jet's engines she jumped from the floundering craft's emergency door, improvising what's been termed a "pradachute" from her high end wardrobe to descend safely into the pine forests of South Carolina.
Nobody knows for sure what her plans or capabilities are, and authorities worry that her folksy recycling of McCarthy-era fear mongering will enable her to form a hyper-nationalist state that is tentatively being called Real America; the name AAAmerica has also been suspected, as it would appear first in the phonebook.
There have been early rumors that Real America will have 3 hour National Anthems before 4 minute baseball games. Schooling will be 50% national anthem and 50% abstinence education. Palin may also recruit doctors that sympathize with her now unfettered philosophy. All medical treatments will be based on the bible, and medical research will only be sold at adult bookstores. Those bookstores will be fire-bombed daily.
Without handlers acting as control rods in the fiery cauldron of ideas contained within Palin's head, experts fear an ideological meltdown.
A nationwide search continues....
Yes indeedy! I feel Bob Roggio is a BAD choice for Congress. He has NO experience. He shipped jobs OUT of PA when he sold his company. He's just another tacky bored rich dude who wants to play politics.
Bob Roggio is PIGGY Politics at Work. Just Vote NO to Roggio.
Dumb Roggio posted by Anonymousin6th :
Bob Roggio is unethical, uneducated, and an all around jerk. I have been following him and he won't be getting my vote.
For another perspective on him, see this post someone e-mailed me this morning:

And I won't be voting Leach after the above comment. If he is PRO Roggio, I won't vote for him.
And Casey? He's only in office because people voted for Anyone But Santorum

I've known Bob Roggio for years. He's smart, a good family man, and above all a nice guy. You might as well call Santa Claus a jerk. It's obvious that you know nothing about Bob Roggio.
I'm not surprised to read the above post, however, because I assume it was posted by a Gerlach Campaign staffer. Anyone who follows politics in this state knows that Jim Gerlach runs the most mean-spirited smear-based personal destruction campaigns in Pennsylvania. Despite their endorsement of him this year, the Philadelphia Inquirer has regularly recognized Gerlach as one of the most dirty campaigners in the Philly media market.
Shame on you, Mark Campbell (whether this poster was you or not), for smearing another good person just for challenging your boss; instead of running a campaign based on the Congressman's record or plans for the future.

Mark Campbell doesn't speak for the voters in 6th district of PA, especially those of us who are independent minded in Chester and Berks counties.
Jim Gerlach, as a matter of fact, has NOT run a particularly negative campaign, and how is the truth smearing Roggio?
Roggio is a lightweight with more money than sense. There is enough of that going around DC and PA already.
Never underestimate the power of voters. Adam you are a neurotic jackass whom I assume works for Roggio?

When news broke that Gov. Sarah Palin and her family managed to spend $150,000 of other people's money on clothes after joining the McCain ticket, many scratched their heads. Is that legal? Thanks to a loophole in federal law the answer, experts say, is yes.
Handily, the loophole was codified into law by the landmark campaign finance law passed by her ticketmate, Sen. John McCain.
It would be illegal for the McCain-Palin campaign to buy a new wardrobe for Palin and her husband, say campaign finance lawyers contacted by ABCNews.com. But the law is silent on whether such purchases can be made by the Republican National Committee (RNC). ...Some have still raised questions about whether the Palin wardrobe purchase is legal because it was made as a coordinated expenditure, a type of purchase done by a political party directly for a campaign and subject to monetary limits each election cycle by law.
While largely the Federal Election Commission hasn't applied the personal use restrictions to coordinated expenses, some lawyers say should be.
"It's vetting gone haywire," said Gov. Sarah Palin's beleaguered press secretary, Bill McAllister, as he dealt with a new round of questions about the governor -- this time about a tanning bed installed in the governor's mansion in Juneau.
Sarah Palin clearly upped her fashion quotient after being nominated as John McCain’s running mate.
It turns out that the Republican National Committee spent $150,000 in September on clothing, hairstyling, makeup and other “campaign accessories” for Ms. Palin and her family, according to federal financial records.
The tab included $50,000 at Saks Fifth Avenue and $75,000 at Neiman Marcus.
Years from now, Sarah Palin may be the perfect case study for a political shooting star.
First she was a rock star, someone happily capable of bringing life to a moribund McCain campaign—someone who could rev up the base and maybe pick off a few Hillary Clinton voters.
Then came the dark times—the Gibson interview, the Couric interview, Troopergate, the debate in which she breezily refused to actually answer the questions. The "Hockey Mom" charm wore off quickly as she grasped the vice presidential pit-bull role, bringing it to new levels of divisiveness with comments about "real America" that even she acknowledged were, ahem, unhelpful.
But the dark times are over. That brilliant flash you see? Sarah Palin flaming out. Or exploding. Or crashing and burning. It's been that kind of week for the Alaska governor.
Let's count the hits she's taken in the past 24 hours:
There's her $150,000 wardrobe. It's hard to run as Joan of Six Pack when your wardrobe alone almost qualifies for an Obama tax increase. (Even when you're a millionaire, anyway.)
They are going to be sayin' that Michael Smerconish has drunk the kool aid. Why? Because the big talker with the short stature and the chrome dome, has broken away from the GOP and proven that he IS and independent thinker. Bet he isn't sporting one of those billboard sized McCain-Palin signs, or one of the pink pussycat McCain-Palin signs, huh? I've decided.
My conclusion comes after reading the candidates' memoirs and campaign platforms, attending both party conventions, interviewing both men multiple times, and watching all primary and general-election debates.
John McCain is an honorable man who has served his country well. But he will not get my vote. For the first time since registering as a Republican 28 years ago, I'm voting for a Democrat for president. I may have been an appointee in the George H.W. Bush administration, and master of ceremonies for George W. Bush in 2004, but last Saturday I stood amid the crowd at an Obama event in North Philadelphia....Last Saturday at Progress Plaza, I heard Obama say: "The American people aren't looking for somebody to divide this country; the American people are looking for someone to lead this country."
Michael Smerconish lit up the phone lines and filled his in-box this morning at his WPHT show with word that he's planning to vote for Barack Obama -- marking the first time since he registered to vote 28 years ago that he'll pull the Democrat lever for president.
He'll explain all in his Sunday column in The Inquirer's Currents section -- as much as he can do in 750 words. The intro reads: "John McCain is an honorable man who has served his country well. But he will not get my vote."
In a chat this afternoon, Smerconish acknowledged that most of the callers and e-mails were scathing, capping months of criticism that began when Smerconish invited Obama to speak on the air. "They never wanted me to welcome Obama in the first place," he said. In the spring, Smerconish announced that if he were a Democrat, he'd prefer Obama over Hillary Clinton.
Smerconish's associations with John McCain date back years. I remember a Smerconish "book club" appearance with McCain at the Downtown Club in December 2005 that was a veritable love-in for the Arizona senator.
Smerconish also acknowledged that this "coming out" might hurt his career nationally. He's been a frequent guest on and fill-in host for big names such as Glenn Beck and Bill O'Reilly -- both of whom wear their conservatism loudly and proudly.
Robert D. Jenkins of Wachovia Bank was officially reprimanded by the bank for forwarding a political email with erroneous information about the Presidential candidates' tax plans.
As we get closer to the 2008 Presidential election, the viral propaganda about the candidates is increasing. The latest example involves an email with inaccurate information about McCain's and Obama's tax plans that is now spreading across the internet. The email comes at a time when Wachovia is struggling with financial trouble brought on by the economic crisis and was in talks with Wells Fargo and Citigroup for a buyout.
Mr. Jenkins is employed by Wachovia as a Retirement Planning Counselor and those who received the email mistakenly believed it had been authored by him. The original author is still unknown.....
Under Obama your taxes will more than double! How does this affect you? No explanation needed. This is pretty straight forward.
INHERITANCE TAX
MCCAIN 0% (No change, Bush repealed this tax)
OBAMA Restore the inheritance tax
How does this affect you? Many families have lost businesses, farms and ranches, and homes that have been in their families for generations because they could not afford the inheritance tax. Those willing their assets to loved ones will not only lose them to these taxes. NEW TAXES BEING PROPOSED BY OBAMA
* New government taxes proposed on homes that are more than 2400 square feet * New gasoline taxes (as if gas weren't high enough already) * New taxes on natural resources consumption (heating gas, water, electricity) * New taxes on retirement accounts and last but not least.... * New taxes to pay for socialized medicine so we can receive the same level of medical care as other third-world countries!!!

BOSTON, Massachusetts (AP) -- A soured investment in Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc. debt slashed two-thirds of the asset value of the oldest money-market fund in the United States, exposing clients to losses despite investments in a financial product seen as a safe haven even in volatile markets.
The sudden setback at the Reserve Primary Fund caused it to "break the buck" -- leaving investors unlikely to get back all the cash they put in because the fund failed to maintain assets of at least $1 for every dollar invested.
After announcing the Primary Fund's troubles Tuesday night, the fund's manager, Reserve Management, said Wednesday that two other smaller money funds also had broken the buck: Reserve Yield Plus Fund, and Reserve International Liquidity Fund, a fund available only to offshore investors.
The Primary Fund's woes marked just the second instance of breaking the buck in the nearly four decades-long history of money funds, which started in 1970 when the Primary Fund ushered in a popular way to invest while keeping money readily available if needed.
The fund's troubles are expected to heighten anxieties of investors seeing fewer safe places to sock away cash. This includes money-market funds that have collectively grown to $3.5 trillion in assets because of their conservative reputation compared with riskier investments such as stocks.
"The Primary Fund was really the pioneer in the industry, so this is not only a big problem for that firm, but for investors," said Lawrence Jones, a mutual fund analyst at research firm Morningstar Inc.
Several money fund firms Wednesday issued statements trying to reassure investors. One of the biggest, Vanguard Group Inc., posted a statement on its Web site saying it "continues to manage its money market funds very conservatively and with extreme prudence, focusing on the highest-quality short-term money market instruments."

Doggone it; Sarah Palin did pretty well in the first and only Vice Presidential debate.
She did not commit a gaffe, was clearly well rehearsed, and said a lot of the things she needed to say, portraying herself as the hockey mom she is, representing the Main Street folks in Wasilla, Alaska.
So why couldn't I take her seriously?
Perhaps it was because she was too well rehearsed, repeated the same phrases again and again, or it may be that the very innocence she presents as a political outsider--one of her strengths according to Republicans--is also what makes it so difficult to envision her as a political insider, an equal partner with the United States President, and wielding the gavel in the United States Senate. The gee whiz quality of her presentation made it clear that she actually was thrilled to meet Senator Joe Biden, was "honored" to be there. A warm smile, a perky voice, and yes, a certain likability are attributes, but these qualities are not enough to project her into the Vice President's chair, and possibly, the President's.
I continued to feel that she was acting the part of the candidate. Fake it until you make it is what women are often told to do in many challenging circumstances. She faked it well, but I'm not sure she made it. At times she seemed like Pygmalion who was taught to pronounce the words correctly. It worked on one level, but if you were to uncover it, there would be no second layer.

Radnor police are seeking the public's help in identifying and locating the gunman responsible for a gas station robbery Sunday.
About 4:30 a.m. the gunman entered the Sunonco A-Plus in the 300 block of East Lancaster Avenue where he demanded cash, police said.
Police have described the suspect as a white male between 30 and 40 years of age, roughly 6 feet tall with an average build. Additionally, the subject had wrinkles around his eyes and had a Filipino accent, police said.
Police said the subject was seen wearing blue pants, a black hooded Adidas jacket with white stripes down the sleeves and Adidas written on the front in white letters, a black ski mask, black gloves, black shoes and brandished a black hand gun. The robber left the store on foot with an undetermined amount of money, police said. No injuries were reported.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the Radnor Township Police Department at 610-688-0500.

I'm Boob Roggio, who are you?
, along with some other stuff that should be added into this bill, to protect us, the Average Americans. He wasn't voting "no" just to vote "no", but he's smart enough to realize that we have to be wary of edicts from the Bush White House - after all this President is the guy who was given a baseball team and managed it into the ground...then an oil company...then the rest of us. Many of us voted for him once and even twice probably due to his lineage and family leagcy. Only George II is not half the man George I was.The day after U.S. Rep. Jim Gerlach (R., Pa.) voted against the $700 billion financial bailout package, his Democratic opponent called the vote "derelict" and lacking courage.
"He deserves to be fired," said Bob Roggio, a retired small-business owner from Chester County who is running for the Sixth Congressional District seat. "This proves he cannot handle the business of America."
Roggio said he would have voted for the bill and accused Gerlach of political posturing. Gerlach is seeking a fourth term in a district that spans four counties and stretches from Lower Merion to Reading.
Gerlach's campaign manager, Mark Campbell, said Roggio's comments contradicted what Roggio said last week, when he was quoted as being skeptical about the bill...A spokesman for Gerlach said that as of 4 p.m. yesterday, his offices had received 232 calls critical of his vote and 182 supporting him.
The refusal by a majority of the House to back the bill triggered Monday's 777-point drop in the Dow Jones industrial average.
In defense of his vote, Gerlach said in a statement on Monday that the bill did not go far enough in reining in executive compensation and correcting the mistakes that led to the financial crisis.
He said Congress should take the time to craft a "financially responsible plan" that restores the confidence of investors, consumers and the markets.
Supporters of Roggio, who joined him on a conference call with reporters yesterday, said that as small-business owners they were beginning to see the effects of the tightening markets and the credit crunch.
U.S. Rep. Jim Gerlach's, R-6th, of Berks, Chester, Montgomery and Lehigh counties, campaign said yesterday Democratic opponent, Bob Roggio, flip-flopped on the failed $700 billion financial-industry bailout.
Gerlach political director Mark Campbell seized upon comments Mr. Roggio made in Monday's Bulletin, in which he was "skeptical" and "really not convinced" of the wisdom of passing the measure. It failed Monday on a 228-205 bipartisan vote in the House of Representatives, by which time Mr. Roggio was supporting it.
"There is a consensus among rank-and-file members on both sides of the aisle that we can and should do a better job on a financial rescue plan," Mr. Gerlach said in a statement explaining his opposition to the bailout. "That's why I am calling on my colleagues to get back to work as quickly as possible to pass a financially responsible plan."
Mr. Roggio criticized Mr. Gerlach for voting against it.
"My opponent, Jim Gerlach, voted against the rescue package," he said in a statement. "I think his action was derilict [sic], and I think he deserves to be fired because he cannot handle the business of America."
Mr. Campbell said the Democrat's comments before and after the bailout's failure amount to a total policy reversal.
"I guess because no one is paying attention to the Roggio campaign, they have made political calculations that they can get away with these complete and total changes in policy positions when they see an opportunity to attack," he said. "The voters are tired of the politics as usual, which is why they continue to elect Jim Gerlach who has been named one of the most independent Republicans in Washington."....Mr. Campbell said the bill did not change subsequent to Mr. Roggio's expressions of skepticism and therefore he did not remain consistent. He then criticized the Democrat for selling his Zenith Products Corporation to a Michigan company, moving about 500 jobs out of his region.
"He has about as much in common with working families as a pig does with a rodeo cowboy," Mr. Campbell said.
