Verizon Sucks...Pass it On

VERIZON SUCKS. PASS IT ON. BOYCOTT FIOS, 'CAUSE FIOS IS AN UNFAIR MONOPOLY...OR DO YOU KNOW WHERE YOUR COPPER WIRE IS?

Now, go ahead, Google "Verizon Sucks" or "Verizon Fios" and get blown away by complaints....well,here is the story that Verizon doesn't want you to know about:

Do you realize that if you move into a house, apartment, condo, whatever that is wired for Fios you can't get anything else? Ergo, if you can't afford Fios you are f*cked? That is is Fios or nothing? Did you know that when Verizon technician are running Fios fiberoptic crap they are REMOVING copper wire? Do you realize that public utility commissions in states like Pennsylvania know all this and can't do anything? WHY can't they do anything? Because Verizon might use utility rights of way, but they do NOT consider themselves a utility....therefore they answer to no one. They are creating a sneaky monopoly

Verizon's copper cutoff traps customers, hampers rivals
By DEBORAH YAO
The Associated Press

PHILADELPHIA — When Henry Powderly II ordered Verizon's FiOS fiber-optic service, he knew he was about to be connected to the future of telecommunications.

He also got unplugged from its past. Which meant that while Powderly was gaining features, he was losing some telecommunications options.

Verizon's installer removed the copper wires that used to carry Powderly's phone calls, as he knew the company would. But for most of the world, copper still links homes and businesses, as it has for a century.

Verizon's new high-bandwidth fiber lines are capable of carrying not only calls but also Internet data and television with room to grow. But once the copper is pulled, it's hard to switch back to the traditional phone system or less expensive digital subscriber line service.

And Verizon isn't required, in most instances, to lease fiber to rival phone companies, as it is with the copper infrastructure.

What's more, the next owner of Powderly's house will face higher bills with FiOS than another home with copper. Right now, for instance, Verizon's DSL plans cost as little as $15 a month. FiOS Internet starts at $30 a month.

"I was not given an option," said Powderly....Mark Cooper, research director at the Consumer Federation of America, says there are other reasons for snipping the wires.

"They don't want to maintain it. They don't want the expense and they don't want the competition," he said.

Under the Telecommunications Act of 1996, incumbent phone companies like Verizon must lease their copper network to rivals. That's generally not the case for next-generation fiber systems.

So far, Verizon has filed more than 100 notices with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to retire portions of copper throughout its network..Unlike copper-connected phone service, FiOS doesn't work during power outages once a backup battery goes out — not even for emergency calls. Home alarms and certain other devices work best with copper.

Rabe said Verizon will restore copper to homes if the customer insists, but would rather not reconnect the copper and will try to persuade the customer to agree.

Verizon FIOS insures future monoply

....My problem is that Verizon monopolizes your house once FIOS is installed. By removing your copper wire you are now forced to stay with Verizon until other carriers have fiber optic capabilities. I did not find out about this until I wanted to switch back to DSL to save some money. They said “Nope, can’t”

How many of you have Fios in your community? How many can get clear reception on government public access channels? Have you heard that Fios has caused fires? Here, check this out:

Consumerist: Verizon Fios Sets Another House on Fire
$1800 For FiOS House Fire Family Is Just An Advance, Says Verizon

A Philly family is the latest to have their house set on fire after Verizon FiOs installers drilled through their electrical line. The Sammlers says the smoke from the fire and chemicals used to fight it ruined all their possessions, $58,000 worth. Verizon has offered the family $1,800. What will the Verizon Policy Blog have to say about this incident? Probably something along the lines of, "while the smoke at the Sammler house may be gone, the desire of customers still clamoring for the blazing hot speeds of FiOS is yet to be quenched!"

verizon fucking sucks. i hate them so much. i don't care what facet of the company we're talking about, it all sucks. but my big beef with them is when i called in, trying to fix a problem, but they magically created more problems and after 10+ hours, 12+ agents, a DSL cancellation (aka no internet access), different and inaccurate information every call, and 2 dropped calls later one agent was ignorant enough to be condescending towards me about the whole matter. WTF!? our office was defunct for a week because of the whole matter, the entire fiasco started because lines were installed improperly, no one could give me a straight answer about anything that was going on and they had been sending emails to us at a non-existent email address. but NO ONE offered to comp us on ANYTHING. not for the first, second, third...or ANY of the problems that were created due to the incompetency, poor communication, and anti-quality service of verizon. instead of the voice recording disclaimer that says your call will be recorded for quality reassurance, they need to change that to a disclaimer warning customers that interactions with verizon customer service may induce feelings of nausea, homocide, suicide, stress and a host of other absurd and hostile emotions that are indescribably extreme.
here is a conglomeration of words expressing my experience with verizon.
the agents were incompetent, confused, self-righteous, indifferent, unsympathetic, annoyed...
the results were few, problematic, nonexistent, insufficient...
and a whole slew of other expressions that make me think of verizon: FUCK!, are you fucking serious, WTF, please-don't transfer me again, i'm not getting off the phone with you until this is fixed, so this is the 4th person i've talked to today..., *crying*, *feeling helpless*, OMGGG, pleeeeeeeeeeeease just FIX IT, but i made my payment last week...why did you turn my internet off, why didn't anyone tell me this before, why did they say (insert what previous agent said) if you say (insert what current agent is saying)...
the disclaimers also need to note that these effects could last anywhere from 2 hours to 5+ weeks. and that towards the end of the said time frame, the most pervasive feelings will be pure rage mixed with helplessness and a loss of words either due to the fact that you have explained your situation so many times you are unsure if you can possibly repeat it again or that your rage and helplessness are so pure that they are absolutely inexplicable.

spread the shit! fertilize the hate for verizon!

Hey Jane,

I share your anger and hatred for Verizon. Your whole description above is EXACTLY what I went through with all the agents, customer service, being placed on hold for a number of hours, and still no connection or something going wrong with my connection the next day!! Why must it be this way?
Are they trying to send the signal out there that they don't want anyone's business?

Verizon is the rudest company I have ever dealt with. I have had three phones break and they never help. I just had a 800 dollar bill because a added their internet to my phone which I thought i had before but i was being charged minutes. My parents never have had a problem with sprint and I will be definately going back to them.
