Well, here I am contemplating as a woman what my choices are for President of the United States.
It's just hard to get past all of the hype. Some cases where hype doesn't matter?
Huckabee. He's just plain scary. To say
he's the Christian candidate doesn't make me anymore comfortable because let's face it, the zealots in this country are crossing that line between church and state far too often for comfort. I have my own religion, I do not need yours, thank you.
In the religion as candidate category, then we have
Mitt Romney? And the best retort Mitt has against "God-Is-My-Running-Mate" Huckabee is that he is
another Bill Clinton? That is pathetic, and unfortunately when you think of Mormons you think of that crazy
polygamist leader Warren Jeffs, who is like a character right out of
Big Love - but then again, ol' Mitt is like one of those characters
from Big Love.Alrighty then, mebbe we should just leave religion out of it?
Ok, but then we have
Barack Obama , who they are now trying to smear in some camps by saying he is a Muslim.
Again, can we just leave religion out of it? Now Obama has Camp Oprah in his corner....but then we meet
John Edwards, who has his cancer battling brave wife in his corner. That's not so bad. Edwards is truthfully fairly likeable most of the time...now onto two others:
John McCain, who is soldiering forward (pardon the pun) and Joe Lieberman says he will endorse. Hmmm.
Now THAT makes one think...and then...then there is
Rudy Giuliani, whom they are saying isn't living up to "9/11 Hype". You know, that just isn't fair. He did a fabulous job leading NYC out of 9/11, as a woman where I have a problem with Rudy is he seems to be waffling on his former pro-choice stance.
Rudy is having a tough time of it.Ok, so now that leaves
Hillary Clinton. Is she a well oiled machine in a women's school package? You betcha. Do they say nasty things about the carpetbagger who moved to NY and became a very successful U.S. Senator? You betcha.
Has the comment "Clinton Fatigue" made me wonder? No more so then all the other spin about every other candidate.
But the unfortunate truth of it is, as a woman, even one who is kinda conservative, you can't disagree with everything she says or stands for. My problem is wondering if I am hearing her or party mantra some of the time.
But do I disagree with everything that comes out of her mouth? Not really. Maybe it is time for a woman in the Oval Office. Pennsylvania Avenue could do worse.
It's a long time until '08 is settled no matter what happens. I wonder who will want my vote? I am an ordinary American. Which candidate is going to convince me they are number one, or am I going to have to consult my
Magic 8 ball?
